Spring Road Trip '09 :: Part 2

Perhaps you have never driven across Texas, north/south or east/west it really does not matter, trust me when I tell you - it is BIG. We spent the majority of day 2 driving southbound into the Rio Grande Valley. Many thoughts of my Grandma & Grandpa B. flooded my memory...they were 'snowbirds' or 'winter Texans' for better than 20 years. We stopped to visit the Palo Alto Battlefield.
The site of a big 'ol battle between the US & Mexico regarding boundary lines.
A few prickly pear cactus were blooming with the others just waiting to burst into color! I love the pink flower (vs the typical yellow) and the awesome texture on the plant.

South Texas is humid & tropical - perfect for growing fruits & veggies. We made a stop at the roadside farmers market to taste a sample!

And load up on grapefruit & oranges - sweet like candy!
next up :: the beach!

Beautiful pictures, every one of them! I love all the colors and contrasts! They make me miss Texas, though...
