Girls Weekend | 2011

Four of my best girls in KC for one awesome weekend...thanks for making the road trip!

No visit to Kansas City is complete without a stop at the Country Club Plaza...

or some finger lickin BBQ at Jack Stacks!

BSG skipped the plaza, but was not getting left out on the burnt ends!

A road trip within a road trip...we motored to Iowa for the Iowa State Fair!!!  The fair is on the list of 1,000 things to do before you die, yup, it is that good! 

Southern Iowa has a large population of Amish folks...the signs warn you to be aware of the buggies!  We made a quick stop in Lamoni where I asked the local old farts having coffee where I could get some fresh sweetcorn.  They directed us straight to the source, a Amish farmstead just a mile up the road.

The lovely Amish gentleman picked us a fresh dozen straight from the field for 3 bucks!  Nothing beats that!  I have been bragging on Iowa sweet corn to these ladies for years!  It did not disappoint...yummy!

Attendance total for our day at the fair = 112,542
I really like this picture - so much going on here!  The tandem flags, the gold state capital building in the distance, sky glider and all the people on the main drag of the fairgrounds!

On our first visit this Momma was in labor with her bag of waters partially delivered - we stopped back several hours later to find this little newbie!

Fair food!!!  Let me just say this...I entered the fairgrounds and had a funnel cake in hand within 10 minutes. I declared it a calorie free zone...you can do that, right?

Wine tasting...one of the most important attractions! 
Hands down the "State Fair Red" won our mini poll.

Sylvia splurged on tickets for all of us to ride 'Ye Old Mill -

Actually, there is a very good reason I've never rode this before and never will again...you sit in a boat, travel through water, most of the ride is in the dark and you see a couple state fair ads. That's it. What? Huh?

In the evening we rocked the Heart/Def Leopard concert!
