gotta get away....

Saying goodbye to our baby was agonizing and neither one of us wanted to spend the weekend at home. We packed our bags and head out on a road trip...time spent alone together in the car is very therapeutic and some fresh country air couldn't hurt. We headed down to Round Top, Tx to the Marburger Farms antique show....acres and acres of antiques, ripe for the pick'in!
  • overheard @ the show: "Isn't it wonderful to be a girl!!" I couldn't agree more!
  • seen at the show: "antique shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden."
  • prayer from the show: {one I'll pray from now on} Dear Lord, Please place your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth, Amen.
We felt the antiques over priced and our only purchase was a bag of kettle corn! Money in the pocket for our next stop....the outlet mall. Hello, Kate Spade. *smile* Speaking of fresh air ... we visited the ghost town of Nickel, Tx. As is our tradition in the spring, we go in search of wildflowers. This year they seemed to be few and far between. {Nothing like last year when we had tons of spring rains.}

Saturday night we did a little two steppin at the Gruene Dancehall and enjoyed some authentic Texas music from this guy.

Saturday we rolled into Luling, Tx and were welcomed by the smell of 20 {?} or more BBQ slow cookers lining the main street. Is there a better scent than BBQ on a beautiful spring evening? We followed our noses' and headed out in search of dinner....we soon discovered that the BBQ was not for sale. Everyone appeared to be hanging out, like at a camp ground. Hummm. Shucks. Remember we are still hungry... so, Brian asked some random lady what was going on, she informed us that it was a BBQ cook off. She insisted we come on over and get a bite...so with the group that calls themselves the "Social Smokers" we had a beer & some really yummy ribs & chicken! I love random kindness. I bought school books for the fine children of Martindale, Tx.
translation: speeding ticket. Damn it.

A stop here to pick up some ham sandwiches, we headed to the park & ate our lunch with the mermaid in Salado, Tx. We re-visited the beautiful painted churches in Praha, Dubina, Ammannsville and High Hill. I want to honor the magnificance of these churches in a post all of their own...so, stay tuned!That was our 950 mile road trip in a nutshell! Good times!
