5/3/10

our weekend | in a pecan shell

One of the many things
that I love about our life
is that we can,
when the mood strikes-
head out of town.
We simply saddle up
one of the Dodges'
and
get 'outa Dodge!
We do not conform to
any set schedule or program.
Our 'weekend' is not necessarily on a
Saturday or Sunday.
For this adventure
we headed Southbound 35.
And after a stop in Waco
(you know what that means!?!)
and a yummy
Robertson's ham sandwich in Salado
we headed to Granger.
Where they are currently filming the
movie remake of True Grit.
They have literally transformed the town-
it looks like you stepped back and
landed in the old west!
There were buggy's and horses and props everywhere...
The store fronts were renamed and the WANTED posters were hung.
Rumor had it that one Mr. Matt Damon was on location...
but we must have missed him.
Shoot fire.
Naturally, there was a train involved!  :)
This old steamer was also used in the movie 3:10 to Yuma.
We arrived in Gruene just in time
for dinner at the Gristmill River Restaurant.
Fantastic atmosphere, food and margaritas!
In the morning we motored to Temple
for the Central Texas Airshow.
Formation flying makes me very very nervous
Yikes!
This little guy was plum crazy.
I got a sunburn.
They performed a Vietnam re-enactment....
complete with a little Creedence Clearwater Revival ~ Fortunate Son...
and Vietcong...
and bombs bursting in air.
...and there you have it!
Did I mention I got a sunburn?

Looks like fun! How terrible I didn't ask about your weekend last time we talked! Hope your sunburn is healing well.

Love the new header - I need to change mine.

It looks like you had a lot of fun. That would not be a merry trip for us with 3 kids in tow.
